PAYROLL SPECIALIST
Hourly / Non-Exempt / Full Time
Salary Range: $19-25
Location: Lodi, CA
BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY
The payroll specialist helps process the company's payroll.
Responsible to calculate union-based wages based on hours worked
and administer payments. A payroll specialist is required to use
payroll software with accuracy and efficiency.
Must be analytical with numbers and must be able to be trusted with
sensitive information. Must have professional communication skills
to interact with coworkers and employees. The goal is to ensure
personnel receive the correct compensation in a timely manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
---Collect all information on hours worked for each employee
---Calculate the accurate values and incorporate overtime,
deductions, bonuses, etc.
---Communicate with dispatch, billing, human resources, field and
finance as needed.
---Receive approval from upper management for payments when
needed
---Prepare and execute pay order through an electronic system to
distribute paychecks
---Administer statements of payment to personnel either
electronically or on paper
---Keep track of hour rates, wages, compensation benefit rates, new
hire information, etc.
---Enter variances from previous weeks when needed
---Address issues and questions regarding payroll from employees
and superiors
---Communicate & Prepare reports for upper management, finance
department, human resources
---Ensure workers follow CA state law hour regulations
---File payroll records
---Assist in internal and external audits
---Complete EDD forms, verifications of employment and other
requests from human resources
QUALIFICATIONS
---Ability to read/write and speak English
---Establish and maintain effective working relationships with
coworkers and others
---Work independently with minimum supervision while prioritizing
workloads to meet deadlines
---Initiative to plan and complete assigned work with a high level
of accuracy
---Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor
---Work in high-volume office with multiple interruptions
throughout the day
---Conflict resolution techniques
---Work professionally with people from a wide variety of cultural
and socio-economic backgrounds
---Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and payroll best
practices
---Working knowledge of labor laws and regulations
---Trustworthy with attention to confidentiality
---Outstanding organizational ability with great attention to
detail
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
---High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
---Payroll processing experience: 1 year (required)
---Proficient in MS Office (especially Excel)
---Knowledge of Traffic Control & union labor laws (preferred)
